During Literacy, we will follow a workshop model of learning. Read aloud and independent reading time is vital in our classroom. Often, I will connect the literacy concept/skill of the day to our read aloud text. During independent reading time, I will have conferences with students to ensure their understanding and promote reading comprehension.

We will also use the workshop model during math. I will first teach a mini-lesson involving the concept of the day. After, students will get started with their problem-set while I meet with different small groups. During small group time, I will be able to create deeper connections with the students, reteaching or extending the lesson based on their needs.
Writing Lucy Calkins -Units of Study Writing
During writing, we will follow a writer's workshop model. This ensures that students will have plenty of time to practice the writing skills that we learn during our mini-lesson. This also provides me with time to meet with each student to assess their specific needs and focus for their writing.
